The question of gender diversity and queer subcultures is given special attention in the work of FETISH BAROQUE. We founded the ensemble specifically for this purpose, in which artists regardless of sexual orientation and gender play at the interfaces between subculture and high culture. We convey this context both live on stage and in relation to current discourses such as the fetish theory developed by cultural scientist Hartmut Böhme.
FETISH BAROQUE bring early music into the new millennium and use everything the 21st century has to offer. Light technology, sound technology, fog machines, pole dance, costumes, body painting by the multiple body painting world champion Birgit Mörtl, disco balls as well as gut strings, baroque bows, trills and theorbos. The musicians from the European metropolises of Barcelona, Palermo, Paris, Cologne, Vienna and Graz are in the mood for a new, historically informed approach to the content of music: they weep for their Acis with Galatea, transform Dafne into a laurel tree and soar into the sky with Ersilla. FETISH BAROQUE present their art to a new generation that wants more than the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Concert, Alla Turca ringtones on their mobile phones or Handel's Hallelujah on Youtube.

Die Frage nach Gender-Diversity und nach queeren Subkulturen wird in der Arbeit von FETISH BAROQUE ganz besonders beachtet. Speziell dafür haben wir dieses Ensemble gegründet, in dem Künstler_innen unabhängig von sexueller Orientierung und Geschlecht an den Schnittstellen zwischen Sub- und Hochkultur spielen. Diesen Kontext vermitteln wir sowohl live auf der Bühne sowie im Bezug auf aktuelle Diskurse wie die von Kulturwissenschaftler Hartmut Böhme entwickelte Fetisch-Theorie.

Lichttechnik, Tontechnik, Nebelmaschinen, Pole-Stangen, Kostüme, Bodypainting von der mehrfachen Bodypaint-Weltmeisterin Birgit Mörtl, Diskokugeln und Darmsaiten, Barockbögen, Triller und Theorben. Die Musiker*innen aus den europäischen Metropolen Barcelona, Brüssel, Palermo, Paris, Köln, Wien und Graz haben Lust auf eine neue historisch informierte Herangehensweise an die Inhalte der Musik: Sie weinen mit Galatea um ihren Acis, verwandeln Dafne in einen Lorbeerbaum und steigen mit Ersilla in den Himmel.
